Have You Ever Had a Pajama Day?

My 13 year old hopped in the car when I picked her up from school yesterday and said, "mama I think tomorrow we need to have a pajama day tomorrow". As busy as our lives get sometimes we forget to live life. We are rushing around to get children to functions, ourselves to meetings, taking care of others, and just about everything we can squeeze into all the other minutes.

I'm an avid Facebooker and it amazes me the how many statuses wish the week away and can't wait until the weekend. I've actually been that way myself before, but I am slowly realizing that I need to "stop and smell the roses" even during the week. While coming to this point I have to wonder what I can do to make it happen. Here are a few things I have thought of to slow down.

Always keep a calendar and write everything down. This way you can control what you do. Don't worry schedule free time in your calendar and that way if something spontaneous comes up you will be able to do a little shuffle and take off. When your children want to talk, stop and talk! Most things can wait a few minutes. Don't work too much! When you do get your work done for the day-leave and go home. Don't hang around when you are accomplishing nothing. Go home!!! We have started actually cooking together and eating meals at the table. In the past, we've eaten in shifts and lots of time in front of the television. After school, go get a ice cream before homework and talk to your children on the way. Ask questions about their day. Get involved in their lives. Another way to slow down is not to over commit yourself. Learn the word "no" and how to say it nicely! Remember if you do everything then you are taking a blessing from someone else, of being able to do that job. Slowing down requires a little planning ahead. Make a list for the grocery store and Wally World. Go by the list and don't buy anything else. This saves time and money.

These are just a few ways to slow down. Make time to do all you want to do. Make time for your family. Share yourself with others because it will bless you more than them.

So on this Saturday, Shelby and I are having a Pajama Day! Movies, Xbox, snacks, and time together are the important things today! You would be amazed at how wonderful it is! Go ahead, try it!!

Happy Slow Down!

Michelle
